Fiona Heggie and Ellie Lux have experience of dealing with the day-to-day practical aspects of managing food allergy. Both have children with multiple food allergies and have learnt to deal with the issues involved in eating out, going to birthday parties, reading food labels and other aspects of managing the lifestyles of children with food allergies.

Fiona trained at Leith’s School of Food and Wine, completed a one year full-time diploma course and successfully ran a catering business with clients including ITV and Cancer Research UK. Before having children Ellie worked in the strategy and marketing departments at Virgin and has also worked as a freelance writer.

What did our team at FF Inspired think?

We are parents ourselves with gluten sensitive and lactose intolerant children. We wish we had this book years ago! Even now that our children are at school, it will be extremely helpful for baking allergy free treats for school fairs, fundraisers and birthday parties.

This is a must have for any parent with allergic children! The recipes are based on the principles of healthy eating and good nutrition, lots of vegetables, gluten free grains and seeds (such as quinoa), meat and some puddings and treats. All the recipes are ‘naturally’ free-from, simple, wholesome and easy to make even for the novice cook.

The chapters go from weaning “First Flavours” all the way to meals for toddlers until about age 3+ you can then switch to their Allergy Free Family Cookbook.

All the recipes are free from all 14 allergens however, there are tips on most of them helping you to alter it if you are not allergic to certain ingredients. eg. add some pine nuts if not allergic to nuts.

There is extensive information about all 14 allergens, so no matter what allergies you child has, you will find this book a godsend. Next, there is some nutrition advice and even tips about starting day care and nursery.


You will also find: weekly menu planners for weaning, 9-12 months, 12-18 months etc. these are super helpful!

We also loved the chapter about kid’s parties. This includes some great advice and some simple recipes for birthday cakes, fairy cakes and other kid’s party food.

This book will help parents with weaning and creating healthy, nutritious meals for infants and toddlers and an absolute must have for children or families with allergies.
