Lancashire business, Kirsty’s, one of the UK’s leading providers of naturally free from chilled ready meals, has been named as a winner in the Healthy Food Guide’s Food and Drink Awards 2017 for their ‘Slow Cooked Beef with Celeriac Mash’, which took home the award for best ‘Speedy Supper’.

The awards, which are now in their fourth year, have seen a record number of entries across a wide range of health products and brands, with a particular focus on nutritional quality this year.

Healthy Food Guide magazine nutrition editor, Amanda Ursel, comments: “It’s great to see manufacturers striving to improve the nutritional quality of their products and to use innovative ingredients and processing to achieve this. While it’s not easy to create products that tick all the nutritional boxes, it’s great that many are making notable strides in the right direction. Making healthy food that also tastes great is not easy but our winners have succeeded.”

As well as being gluten, wheat and dairy free, every meal in the Kirsty’s range contains at least 1 of your 5 a day and are all under 400 calories.

Kirsty Henshaw, Founder of Kirsty’s, comments: “We’re delighted our Slow Cooked Beef with Celeriac Mash meal has won the Speedy Suppers (Meat) category in the Healthy Food Guide Food & Drink Awards. It’s an honour to have won such a strong category. At Kirsty’s we pride ourselves on making all our meals delicious and fulfilling and put emphasis on the fact that healthy, nutritious free-from food can taste great.”

To help consumers buy and eat more healthily, the Healthy Food Guide team has tasted every product in every category, to ensure winners not only taste great but deliver a nutrition point of view.

Kirsty’s is partnered with Pro-Pak Foods Ltd to produce the range, taking a proactive approach to sourcing the finest ingredients and using a range of artisan processes to achieve authentic styles and taste. The ‘lock in’ freshness techniques used mean that meals can stay fresh for up to 35 days protecting the quality, taste and flavour as well as vitamins and minerals.  The technique eliminates the need for preservatives, artificial ingredients and reduces waste to around 1%.

Kirsty’s range of allergen free, chilled ready meals was launched in 2012 by founder, Kirsty Henshaw, while the Kids’ Kitchen range was launched in 2015. The trusted brands can now be found in over 1,400 supermarkets throughout the UK, with an RSV of £6m, meeting demand for readily available, healthy meals for a busy lifestyle.
